A Little Blog Housekeeping

Let’s talk about a little blog housekeeping

There is no doubt, moving house is a stressful life event. We’ve done it many, many times and each time I find that things are never quite the same. Something changes every time, and it is usually in my daily routines. Well…the same can be said for moving your blog’s home. It has been a little stressful – I’m not a techy person so I find all that side of things get’s my heart racing and my mind stressing, and of course moving to a different platform entails a new learning curve which can be frustrating.

Although on the whole, the move to WordPress has gone well and I’ve managed to migrate my old blog when I was told that I wouldn’t be able to do that, there are some details that have needed to be ironed out, one of those things is my subscribers and followers.

I really appreciate every one of my subscribers

My blog has a lovely email subscriber list, and each and every one of them (you) are precious to me because somewhere in the world, someone wanted to read what I had to say enough to part with their email address and afford a little space in their email boxes to my content. I appreciate that – really, really appreciate that. So after having been writing and keeping Under An English Sky going for nearly six years, and hopefully earning the trust of my readers, I did not want to ‘abandon’ them – but how to transfer that email RSS feed to my new blogging platform? Ugh! the mind boggles.

Well, I’ve fiddled and faffed and tried to get all sorted out but to no avail. The really saddens me but I suppose that was always the risk when I first switched over to a better, safer platform.

Will you check your subscription?

So the long and the short of it is that if you used to get posts delivered to your email and have not been receiving them since the migration, would you mind re-subscribing using the email sign up box right under my photograph in the sidebar?

It also seems that if you were a ‘follower’ on the blogger platform it is no longer the case here. You would need to sign up to the email thingy or you could follow by clicking the ‘follow’ button on my google+ thingymajig in the sidebar.

*sigh* – I feel just horrible that this seems to be the case. I’m pretty sure that someone much more clued up that I in this stuff could probably fix it all in a snip and a snap, but alas, that’s not me.

So my lovelies, thank you again for the time you take to read my blog and for your patience as I do a little blog housekeeping. I do apologise for the annoying inconveniences that seem to crop up when ‘moving house’ and I truly hope that you will stick with me and re-subscribe. Of course, I totally understand if you don’t wish to.

Wishing you all a lovely Wednesday and I’ll see you back here very soon.

  1. sjb- I’ve re-subscribed but I’m not really sure if I had too. I’d like to stay on your email list. thanks!

  2. I’m having so many problems finding the right link to continue subscribing via Bloglovin. Nothing seems to work. I much prefer all the blogs I follow together in one place so not keen on email subscriptions. Can you help please?

    1. Hi Catherine,
My bloglovin account seems to be in a bit of a state with numerous URL’s for my blog. I have contacted the powers-that-be to merge them all and help connect my profile to my blog. I’m hoping that they will do that this week. I think that you are already subscribed through bloglovin anyway and ‘should’ continue to get the posts, but once they have sorted all that techy side out for me I’ll add a bloglovin link to my sidebar.

      1. Hi again Shirley-Ann, all the bloglovin links have a feed burning error page. I’ll subscribe to the email link for a while while it is sorted. X

  3. Hi Shirley-Ann,

These issues are keeping me from making the change to WordPress from Blogger. I’m nervous that I’ll lose all the momentum that I currently have with my blog. It’s hard to know that my 5000+ visits monthly will probably drop dramatically. I do have one suggestion though.

May I suggest that you write a post for your old blog that explains the problem and ask the readers to resubscribe? That way it would go to your old email list-I think!

Have a wonderful week. Do you have an email that I can use to respond to your comments on my blog?

    God bless!

    1. Thanks for the comment Laura. I have done just as you suggest although with my blog being 6 years old I do wonder how many of those original followers actually do still follow. it bothered me for a while but then I realised that I blog because I love to write and share and I really enjoy interacting with my readers. I will just carry on doing what I’ve always done and be very grateful for anyone who finds what I ramble on about worth reading 😀

      Blessings to you today.

I love to hear from my readers and I appreciate each comment left. Please do comment if you have a moment, I try to respond to all comments left.
